101 Things a Bright Girl Can Do
"My name is Connie Toebe and I am a Chicago-based artist who loves to express my creativity through hand embroidery. The series 101 Things a Bright Girl Can Do, is inspired by my collection of antique etiquette, beauty and fashion books as well as Victorian books of jobs and hobbies for women and girls. My work is often described as whimsical and surreal, as I love to blend reality with my own imagination. As a female artist, I am particularly drawn to exploring women's history, especially the lives and roles of everyday women. Through the use of hand stitching, watercolor and block printing, I strive to bring attention to these often overlooked topics in a unique and beautiful way. With each piece, I hope to spark a conversation and challenge traditional notions of femininity."
